Here are some ways you can help to
GET OUT THE VOTE
Come to the EDP General Meeting Sunday, Oct. 7
(note change to first Sunday this month)
Get Out the Vote, with Sierra Forward at Placerville Town Hall from 3:30-5 pm.
We will be writing postcards to mail to people in CA District 04 who don’t see themselves as either strong Democrats or strong Republicans. If you can, bring a roll of $.35 post card stamps.
Les Francis, Sierra Forward Campaign Manager, will give a talk about the results of the most recent SF Survey. The survey questioned voters in California District 4 and provides some interesting insights about the thinking of voters of our district.
We haven’t had a General Meeting in a while because so much else has been going on. So come to Town Hall, chat with friends, have a snack, and help stir up the big Blue Wave! See below for a list of other ways to help out.
Note: the Sunday, November 11 meeting will be our holiday party at the Shakespeare Club. Put it on your calendar! Details coming soon.
Pound the pavement:
Walk neighborhoods and put up door hanger bags with California and El Dorado County Democratic endorsement information. Travel in your car in duos or trios to neighborhoods in Cameron Park and El Dorado Hills. Sat. and Sun., Oct. 13 & 14. Click here to sign up or call. 916-312-3008. NOTE: Bring your children to witness democracy in action!
Talk to voters in person:
Canvass with California Away Team (CalAway) to talk to registered Democrats who “forgot” to vote in the last midterm. The remaining canvass events are in Cameron Park and Placerville. You have a quick, but meaningful conversation with them and have them sign a postcard pledging to vote so we can return it to them as a reminder to vote in November. Talking with voters is the single most effective way to encourage folks to vote. CalAway provides training at each event along with talking points to help volunteers with these conversations. RSVP at CalAway Team Volunteer. If questions, contact Lorraine.king@sbcglobal.net)
Talk to voters over the phone:
Work with the Morse Campaign and Dem Women Club on phone banks every Thursday, 5 to 8 pm. Drop in for phone banking. Where: EDC Democratic Headquarters, 4540 Post Street, Suite 230, El Dorado Hills Contact nicole@morse4congress.com
Text text text with voters!!!
Sierra Forward is running a texting campaign to help voters understand how Tom McClintock is selling us out, one vote at a time. NO cost to you or your phone plan. You don’t even use your phone. It works best on a laptop or tablet. Sierra Forward will train you how to sign onto the program and load prepared texting scripts. To be a part of the Texting Project:
#1 RSVP email to Mary Elliott-Klemm or Kathleen Mintert
#2 Sierra Forward will provide you with a link for online training where you will receive instructions on how to get started.
#3 If you would like extra help, onsite training will be held Oct.7 at 11:00 am. in Placerville.
Contribute to the candidate of your choice:
Perhaps one of these closely contested Senate races
Some of the Senate campaigns where liberals and progressives have a solid chance are outside our State. We CAN help flip the Senate! Consider contributing to these important campaigns as well as to our local ones:
Jacky Rosen, Nevada congresswoman running for U.S. Senate rosenfornevada.com
Kyrsten Sinema, congresswoman running for U.S. Senate seat in Arizona kyrstensinema.com
Beto O’Rourke, Texas congressman running for U.S. Senate (against Ted Cruz) betofortexas.com
And we can't forget our own CA 04 candidate, Jessica Morse running for Representative (against Tom McClintock). www.morse4congress.com Her campaign needs both volunteers and donations.
Also consider donating to our State Assembly candidates
Jackie Smith (District-6) www.smith4assembly.com and
Carla Neal (District-5) carlajnealforcaassembly2018.com, and
other Democratic candidates running locally in El Dorado County
Things that are good to know:
In order to vote in the November 6 midterm election, you must be registered to vote by October 22, 2018. You can register online or in person at the County Elections Department.
People can find out if they are currently registered to vote by visiting this website: Check Status of Your Voter Registration.
Can’t get to the poll on election day? Go to the County Elections Department to vote during office hours anytime after October 8. Contact the elections office for details: Phone: (530) 621-7480.
Provisional voting is always available at the polls for people who realize after Oct. 22nd that they are not registered. (These ballots are often counted last, so voting regularly is best.)
